      Selection of 25 university students for the Summer School

      Article 1 – Establishment and Objectives

      The One Health and Earth Health School for Sustainable Ecosystems and Global Health (OneHealthEarth) was established to educate a new generation of professionals, researchers, and decision-makers capable of understanding the profound interconnections between human health, animal health, ecosystem health, and the integrity of the planet.

      In response to global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, emerging diseases, environmental pollution, and increasing environmental and social inequalities, the School promotes a holistic, interdisciplinary, and evidence-based approach, grounded in the integrated principles of One Health and One Earth.

      The School aims to provide undergraduates, graduates, young scholars, research fellows, scholarship holders, doctoral students, PhDs, and fixed-term researchers with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to understand and address the complexity of biological, environmental, and socio-economic systems, while recognizing the intrinsic value of all living and non-living components of the Earth.

      The program includes a site visit and practical laboratory activities carried out at the laboratories of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Mezzogiorno (IZSM).


      Article 2 – Summer School Contents and Structure

      1. A maximum of 25 participants will be admitted to the Summer School.
      2. All teaching activities will be conducted in English.
      3. The programme will take place from Tuesday, 23 June 2026, to Friday, 26 June 2026.
        Teaching activities will be held at the Aula Magna of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples Federico II, Via F. Delpino 1, Naples, and at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Mezzogiorno, Via Salute 2, Portici (Naples).
      4. Where organizational conditions allow, a remote connection may be made available exclusively for candidates not selected for in-person participation. Selected participants must attend all activities in person.

      Article 3 – Applications

      1. There is no registration fee. Admission will be based on candidates' qualifications and motivations.

      2. Eligible participants include undergraduate and graduate students, early-career scholars, research fellows, scholarship recipients, doctoral candidates, PhD holders, and fixed-term researchers.

      3. The application form is attached to this announcement (Annex 1).

      4. Applicants must include the following documents in their application:

      a. Curriculum vitae in English in Europass format with certifications and publications (http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/documents/curriculum-vitae);

      b. Motivation letter (max 800 words).

      c. Scan of an identity document.

      5. Applications may be rejected for any of the following reasons:

      a. received after the deadline.

      b. incomplete or incorrect.

      c. missing documents.

      d. false information.

      6. Applicants must have a good working knowledge of English.

      7. Applicants must submit documents through the application form (Annex 1). The deadline: 31st May 2026.


      Article 4 – Selection and overall ranking

      1.The Scientific Committee of the Summer School will carry out the selection process:

      2. Some of the places will be reserved for students who have not yet graduated.

      3. The evaluation will be divided as follows:

      a. 60% Academic profile

      • Grade point average (GPA) from past university studies
      • Academic publications
      • Past and current research projects
      • Study qualifications
      • Work or voluntary experiences in relevant fields

      b. 40% Motivation

      The following criteria will be evaluated:

      i. Adequate response to the following questions:

      • What motivated you to apply for the Winter School?
      • What are your future goals?
      • Why is it important for you to deepen your understanding of environmental issues?

      ii. Clear communication of ideas

      iii. Expressing your true self and your ideas with originality.

      4. The selection committee may request applicants to participate in an online interview to verify their academic profile, motivation, and communication skills.

      5. If two or more university students have the same ranking, the younger student will take precedence.

      6. The rankings will be published within seven days after the deadline.

      7. University students ranked in the top 25 will be admitted if they accept their place within the specified timeframe.

      8. University students ranked lower than the number of reserved places for the Winter School will be placed on a waitlist.

      9. University students on the waitlist will be contacted after the final admission deadline if a spot becomes available.

      Article 5 – Final Admission

      Selected candidates must confirm their participation within 5 days from the publication of the ranking list by completing the acceptance form (Annex 2).


      Article 6 – Policies

      1. Participants who meet the minimum attendance requirement of 80% will be eligible to take the final test and will receive an Open Badge certifying the competencies acquired during the Summer School.

      2. Attendance is mandatory. If the university student is unable to attend a lesson, he/she must inform the course coordinators, providing a valid reason.

      3. Classes are not expected to be held online in any circumstance. Should a force majeure affect the program, class instructors will evaluate how best to provide university students with class materials (class recordings, online tutorials, homework through online learning platforms, additional readings, and so on).


      Article 7– Information on Personal Data Processing

      Personal data will be processed in accordance with EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) and applicable national legislation.

      Article 8 - Referral
