Domenico Pirozzi is Professor of Biochemical Engineering Principles at the University Federico II of Naples, where he also obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering with a specialization in Biochemical Engineering.
His research career has encompassed enzymatic reaction systems in non-aqueous environments, energy recovery from wastewater using oleaginous yeasts, and anaerobic digestion processes. More recently, his work has focused on water purification through the synthesis of innovative adsorbents and photocatalysts, often integrated with enzymatic systems, within the framework of Italy–China and Italy–Argentina collaborations.
He has held leadership roles in several national and international research projects and has provided consultancy services to industry. He is the author of over 80 scientific publications and has taught courses at the University Federico II of Naples, Universidad Nacional del Litoral (Argentina), and Tsing-Hua University (China).
